Technologies designed into this complex support not only the needs for today, but with visionary planning and implementation, those of tomorrow.  Forward compatibility and system functionality embrace this hybrid analog digital design of a new Master Control for this PBS station.  Serial digital (SDI) platform is utilized throughout the designed renovation with multi-casting, inter-activity and HDTV capabilities.  Multi-channel automation and server based technologies complete the system design.  All new floor plans with architectural modification for master control, technical support and non-linear editing were also required.

ProVideo Systems, Inc. pre-staged the electronic rack assembly, with pre-cabling and connectorization.  Finish design and assembled hardware was delivered on time and within budget.  The master control serves as a “showplace” of activity incorporating the latest in console design and aesthetic amenities. A forward projection system was incorporated into the design to maximize space efficiency for multiple signal source monitoring.  Initial concept design allows for expansion of both hardware and operational personnel.

ProVideo Systems engineers performed consultation, design, and installation of the multi-purpose auditorium and regional Law Enforcement Agency Training center. The project’s design utilizes the serial digital format sustaining both standard 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios.  Fiber optic inter-connectivity with the regional television station and MPEG transceiving capabilities with surrounding universities are also part of the design. In addition the system includes multi-format satellite acquisition, a full-function multi-camera television production facility and a live theatrical production stage. Lecture and symposium content acquisition in long and short format form complete the production requirements presented on a high-lumen forward projection system and a 9000-watt public address sound system.

The equipment package includes a 2.5 ME video switcher; a six channel DVE with still store capabilities; a full-function character generator; a 16 channel production audio console and a 40 channel public address sound system mixer. The system included multi-format signal testing and measurement, multiple fixed and remotely controlled cameras, interconnection of video, audio, IFB, voice, data, RF and computer video output with complete and exhaustive junction box integration from inside and outside of the auditorium, allowing for both national and local media requirements.

Duties in this project included developing and publishing a bid specification package, equipment pricing, technical specifications literature, block diagrams, console layout, architectural red-lining, cable to-from lists and sound reflectivity studies.

Buckeye CableSystems, Toledo, Ohio

Design, installation and integration of Fiber Optics Transmission system between the Buckeye CableSystem headend in Toledo with the CableSystem commercial production facility, approximately six miles away in the Southwyk Mall area.

The system was designed to allow for integration with a SeaChange ad insertion system at the headend and a Pluto Digital Disk Recorder production facility, over fiber optics in high quality Serial Digital video (CCIR 601.) The personnel responsible for producing the spots at the production facility can master or dub spots over to the DDR. The staff at the headend are able to communicate with the DDR via data paths in the fiber using the SeaChange controller to play and digitize spots in a serial digital format into the SeaChange spot playback system.

Additional capabilities were designed into the system, allowing the headend staff to transport satellite, spot and trailer feeds, to the production facility. The production personnel can tailor the spots for the specific channels used by Buckeye CableSystems making the modified spots available in the highest quality format possible.

University of Findlay, Findlay, Ohio

Design and installation of production studio for use as a teaching facility at the University of Findlay Communications Department. Design encompassed developing a teaching station flow theory with rotating positions for for news magazine productions and classroom training. The features of the equipment operation includes a 2.5 ME SEG, full function character generator, single channel DVE, multi-format tape stack , 16 channel audio board, basic 8x8 router system, audio-video patching, teleprompter system, multi-function waveform/vector scope test location and intercom/IFB along with integration options from a studio Junction Box. Additionally two non-linear edit stations were installed and integrated with the studio production system, along with an existing non-linear system for tape and graphics acquisition and duplication purposes.

Mort Crim Communications, Detroit, Michigan

Designed, installed and integrated in-house video playback including routing, machine control and patching, duplication and logging system that allow the producers to simultaneously control concurrent machines from different offices for purposes of Avid tape logging, client approval and presentation and for in-house critiques and conferences.
